WORKSHOPS IN ENGLISH
For bilingual children
Children are naturally creative and have a capacity
for concentration when they are engaged in an activity they enjoy.
I aim to provide a space away from distractions, where every child can focus
and create their own work, using their hands, minds and imagination.
Kamishibai workshops
For bilingual children aged 7 to 10
Kamishibai or ‘paper-theatre’ is said to have started in Japan in the late 1920s, but it is part of a long tradition of picture story-telling. Kamishibai combines oral, visual and print literacies. A performance is experienced in a shared group setting, where the stories are enjoyed simultaneously by members of the group.
If your child enjoys drawing and likes the idea of making up their own story, this workshop could be just what they’re looking for!
Over several sessions, the children will learn about the origins of Kamishibai performance (a Japanese tradition). They will initially be spectators of a performance.
Then in pairs, small groups or by themselves, they will work on creating their story – a written story accompanied by large panels of illustrations that they will present using a “butai” (wooden frame).
We will cover some illustration techniques and important elements for story-telling.
At the end of the workshop, every child will take home their illustrations and story, along with plenty of inspiration for continuing to create stories!
I will provide the art supplies (watercolour paints, black liners, a variety of markers and pens, and art paper).
If you have a group of 4 to 6 children who enjoy drawing and story-telling, this workshop can take place in your home.

Puppet making and storytelling workshops
For bilingual children aged 7 to 10
If your child enjoys drawing, arts & crafts and likes the idea of creating puppets and making up their own story to perform, this workshop could be just what they’re looking for!
Over several sessions, the children will learn different puppet making techniques. They will initially be spectators of a puppet-show performance of a story they probably know, but with a twist!
Then in pairs, small groups or by themselves, they will work on creating their own story which they will bring to life with their own hand-made puppets.
They will also be involved in creating props and will learn how to move their puppets and use their voice effectively to draw spectators into the story.
At the end of the workshop, every child will take home their puppets and story, along with plenty of inspiration for continuing to create puppet shows!
I will provide the art supplies needed to make the stick puppets, felt finger puppets, and accompanying props.
If you have a group of 4 to 6 children who enjoy story-telling and making things, this workshop can take place in your home.
